Initial Handicap Calculation

We ask you to play in three society days before allocating you a handicap. Your initial handicap is calculated by taking the course par using the relevant tees (yellow for men, red for ladies) away from the total on each of the three cards and then calculating the average of the three nett scores. This figure is then rounded to one decimal place to give your “Exact Handicap”.

Any handicap of more than 54 will be reduced to 54. Your “Playing Handicap” (Handicap which will be used for society days, etc.) is your Exact Handicap rounded to the nearest whole number (e.g. 22.4 = 22 Playing Handicap). Exact Handicaps ending in 0.5 are rounded up (e.g. 22.5 = 23 Playing Handicap).

After each society day the Handicap secretary  will perform the following calculations:

1. Calculate a ‘nett differential’ for each player. This is the difference between the player’s nett score (score less current handicap) and the course par using the relevant tees.
